Things to Do in London for Couples
Looking for date ideas in London? Here’s a list of things to do in London for couples that includes everything from exploring art and history to indulging in exceptional food.
I know from experience that planning an outing with your partner in London can be overwhelming. My husband is an Englishman born in London (as was generations of his family) so he helps plan our days out in London activities that aren’t touristy.
However, as an American living in London for over a decade with a London-based travel website, I also have had tons of unique experiences to offer you.
Whether you’re a local or visiting, you’ll find this list of our favourite recommendations full of meaningful activities. If you want places to go in London that recognise it’s iconic global position and aren’t touristy- we got you!
Artful Escapes
National Gallery Highlights Tour & Afternoon Tea
If you and your partner appreciate art, a guided highlights tour of the National Gallery is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. You’ll walk through centuries of Western European masterpieces, from Van Gogh’s bold Sunflowers to Monet’s serene water lilies. The experience is both visually stunning and intellectually engaging, as the guides share insights about the works.
The specific tour I recommend includes afternoon tea at Ochre, the gallery’s restaurant. Note that this date idea in London makes the list because it can’t be booked for a party of one! So, it’s perfect for someone like you seeking things to do in London for couples.
Mamma Mia! The Party
This immersive dining and theatrical experience combines ABBA’s music with a four-course Greek feast. While it’s lively and energetic, it also creates a space for dancing and having fun together.
Undoubtedly it’s great for a night out with the girls. But if your partner loves musicals and dancing- you will both enjoy this fun packed, energetic evening.
I’ve written an Advice for Mamma Mia! The Party guide about what to wear and expect from the food. But let me say this: if you’re a fan of high energy, interactive activities and Greek food- it’s a brilliant choice!

Romantic Evenings
Candlelight Concerts
These concerts are a personal favourite of Mr Sunny and me. We’ve attended three Candlelight Concerts and plan to go again for a Christmas-themed night featuring music from holiday movies. Performed in unique venues like Southwark Cathedral and SEA LIFE London Aquarium, these evenings create an atmosphere that’s hard to replicate.
Themes range from Taylor Swift to Adele to Queen tributes to Hans Zimmer soundtracks and even Bridgerton-inspired music. The locations are simply majestic, making this a memorable way to enjoy live performances without the bustle of larger concerts. To learn more, read our review of the Coldplay Candlelight Concert.

Shopping Adventures
Notting Hill
Spend a day exploring one of London’s most charming neighbourhoods. Start at Portobello Road Market, where you’ll find antiques, vintage fashion and gourmet food stalls. Then wander through boutique shops and stop for a drink in one of Notting Hill’s many pubs. I’ve done this with Mr Sunny. It’s the kind of relaxed but engaging day that’s perfect for couples.
You can read more in our Romantic Things to Do in Notting Hill article.
You’ll want to pay attention to what’s happening on the weekend, if you’re visiting then. It could be quite crowded at the food markets and other shops.
But, if you’re a film fan, could there be anything more romantic than popping in the Notting Hill Bookshop?
Thrills and Chills
Climb the O2
This is one of the most unique things to do in London for couples who enjoy adventure. Book a sunset climb for the best experience—the cityscape turns golden and the view is unbeatable. The sense of accomplishment at the top is worth every step. There are several adventure activities available at Climb the O2 for you to consider.
Escape Rooms
Put your teamwork to the test with a challenging escape room experience. These immersive games are both fun and thought-provoking, making them an ideal activity for pairs who love puzzles and problem-solving.
And, their settings in London are also endearing!
ThamesJet
For adrenaline-seekers, this high-speed boat ride offers a thrilling way to see London from the Thames. It’s exciting, slightly splashy and guaranteed to get your heart racing. You can read by full review of the Ultimate London Speed Boat Tour to learn more.
You’ll want to plan a stop for a stiff drink or large pint at a riverside pub after your boat ride!

Things to Do in London for Couples: Foodie Experiences
Masterclasses
Try a cooking or baking class together for a hands-on experience. Pied à Terre offers pasta-making and plant-based cooking workshops, as well as champagne and wine tasting evenings. They’re a fun way to learn something new and enjoy delicious food.
Their evening events are chic but relaxed, so don’t be intimidated by the fact that it’s London’s longest-standing Michelin starred restaurant!
Riverside Pubs in Greenwich
Greenwich has so much to explore, from the Cutty Sark to the Royal Observatory, that it’s worth dedicating a full day. End your outing with a meal at one of the area’s riverside pubs. With delicious dishes and views of the Thames, it’s a perfect spot to wind down together.
We visit Young’s Pubs when in Greenwich and recommend Enderby House and Cutty Sark. Their annual birthday celebration which includes the Dray Horses is always a fun afternoon in Greenwich!
Biscuiteers Cookie Decorating
This charming café offers classes where you can decorate their iconic biscuits. I recommend it for couples who enjoy cooking or want to try something playful together. Plus, you’ll leave with beautifully decorated biscuits to enjoy later.

AIRE Ancient Baths
In terms of date ideas in London, you can’t beat unwinding with a couple’s massage or other experience at AIRE Ancient Baths. The serene environment and personalised treatments make it an excellent escape from London’s crowded streets.
It’s inspired by the tradition of baths from ancient Roman, Greek and Ottoman civilisations. The AIRE Experience always takes place in a restored historical building in a city centre. And London’s located between The Strand and Embankment near Covent Garden is truly tranquil!
Picnic on Primrose Hill
For a quieter option, pack a picnic and head to Primrose Hill. This peaceful spot offers panoramic views of the city without the tourist crowds. It’s an understated but incredibly romantic way to spend an afternoon.
Hotels
If you want a staycation or are visiting and haven’t booked your hotel yet for a London trip, here’s an interactive map to get you started! It’s based on the most central location in town.

While having festive treats at Southbank’s Winter Festival or London Bridge’s Winter by the River are also lovely.
Additionally, Christmas at Kew is a top experience on a week night. However, it’s often sold out months in advance so be sure to subscribe to the Sunny News so you don’t miss the ticket sale announcement!

If you’re fans of Harry Potter, don’t miss Hogwarts in the Snow at Warner Bros. Studio Tour—it’s truly enchanting. But- go on a weekday if you want to avoid crowds of families.
