The Guildford Arms- Greenwich, Beer, and Great Food!
Yeeehaaaw Sunny friends! Today we’re heading Sowwwwwf of the Thames for a beertastic experience. Giddy up and get ready for the Guildford Arms!
Mr. Sunny and I started our adventure at this great Greenwich gastropub by ordering our signature drinks, beer and wine.
Ahhhh. So refreshing.
Next, we each savoured our Starters. We couldn’t resist two of our classic choices. Can you guess?
That’s right. I chose the Mozzarella & Heritage Tomato Salad, Rocket and Basil Oil. Mr. Sunny crunched down the Crispy Squid, Chicory, Smoked Paprika Aioli and Lime.
We loved them! Mr. Sunny was really impressed that the chef chose three different colour tomatoes for mine. I explained to him that the flavor of the dressing was also exquisite. Mr. Sunny’s only suggestion for the squid dish was he could have eaten another plate of it. So, I guess he liked it 😉
Since I’ve been on a big lamb kick lately, I picked New Season Lamb, Dauphinoise, Greens, Heirloom Carrots and Rosemary Jus. And I’m really, really glad I did.
Mr. Sunny, a lifelong Londoner, couldn’t resist eating from the Sunday Lunch Menu. Here’s his Hereford Rib-Eye Beef, Roast Potatoes & Carrots, Savoy, Yorkshire Pudding and Gravy.
Let’s go in for a super juicy, closer look…
That’s what I’m talking about!
Wow! I was able to snag a little nibble from him. The beef was cooked perfectly! And just like my lamb, the flavor was balanced beautifully. I also have to add that the Dauphinoise which accompanied my lamb was soooooo creamy and tasty! I’ll happily spend some extra time in the gym because of it.
I ordered another glass of Rioja, and Mr. Sunny tried a locally brewed beer, Meantime Lager. He thought it was very nice. Finally, he sipped on a Meantime wheat beer. He picks that one as the best of all the beer tried. And trust me, Mr. Sunny knows his beer.
However, you remember when Mr. Sunny said he could’ve eaten another plate of squid? Well, good thing he didn’t! He couldn’t even make room for dessert. But, no worries, Sunny friends. I took one ‘for the team.’
That’s my Lemon Verbena Pannacotta, English Raspberries and Grappa. And, la la let me tell ‘ya, it was lemoniscious! Don’t get me wrong… the lemon flavor wasn’t overpowering. It was layered in so delicately that it served as a refreshing treat. I had nooooo problem finishing every last bite.
So, now that you know how wonderful our food was, let’s talk about the real reason Mr. Sunny and I made the trip to Greenwich in Sowwwwf London. It was to check out this fab beer garden…
We enjoyed all of our excellent food while we sat at a shaded table outside. This is a wider shot of the area.
It is perched over this spacious, tiered beer garden.
Our server explained that the gastropub is usually much busier on a Sunday. It would be best for you not to take chances of being disappointed and booking a table in advance of your visit.
If the sun and outdoor atmosphere aren’t for you, the interior of Guildford Arms is equally as charming.
There’s also a private room available upstairs for those interested in hosting a special occasion.
We really loved our trip to the Guildford Arms and strongly suggest you check out their menu and make a trip there for really quality food, service and atmosphere.
After our excellent lunch, we took a DLR train one stop north to ‘Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich’.
It’s crowded with tourists in the summer. However, checking out the beautiful ship and Meridian Line is certainly an easy, fun way to spend part of a sunny in London day. But, I’ll tell you more about that part of the day later, Sunny friends!
We received a complimentary meal for the purpose of a review. This did not influence our opinion.
So, what other South London gastropubs would you suggest?
I’ve never tried the Guildford Arms but the food looks lush!
I went to the Cutty Sark Tavern a few weeks ago for sunday lunch and their beef roast was amazing. It’s a little further out than the main town, but worth the trek! x
Hello Ala! Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment. I don’t know how often I’ll be able to get to Greenwich, as it is quite the distance from me in North London. However, it’s great to have the tip about the Cutty Sark Tavern. It seems to be pretty popular too. Cheers!
I love Greenwhich such a beautiful part of the city. The roast look wonderful really yummy and the dessert is the perfect way to end the meal Lucy x
