Fallow Restaurant Review
What’s all the hype about at Fallow? Mr Sunny and I popped in a few days before Valentine’s Day to check out the menu and see for ourselves. Overall our experience was great and it had a few surprises.
In this Fallow restaurant review we’ll share with you our thoughts on the service, food and value for money this super busy place to eat in London.
Fallow Restaurant Review- Service
Foremost, this is somewhere you need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. If you haven’t seen my YouTube video about What to Book Ahead for London, make sure you give it a watch before your London trip.
We booked our table about 10 days before we wanted to visit and found options a little limited. We struggled to do it on our mobile devices and finally I had to do it through a desktop computer.
There were no Dining Room options left. It was either Bar Table or Terrace. We chose Bar Table and were pleased once we were seated. It allowed us to watch the chefs in action preparing all of the food. Fallow restaurant has an open plan kitchen.
However, when we arrived at 5pm they initially tried to seat us on the end two seats at the bar, which would’ve been right where too much traffic occurred. I immediately asked for the only other two available seats that were in the centre of the bar.
I was grateful they accommodated this without issue because if you don’t show up for your table booking, you are charged £50. So, I wanted to make the most of our experience.
Overall our service throughout the evening was flawless. Jack Croft, one of the founding chefs, was cooking in front of us for nearly our entire experience at the restaurant.
He was very friendly, while attentive to his staff and all the orders for which he was responsible. Jack gave us several food suggestions based on what he thought we would enjoy too. Meeting him was one highlight of our visit.
Fallow Restaurant Review- Food
Overall we enjoyed our food. Surprisingly, our favourite dish was the Mushroom parfait. It includes Shitake, home grown lion’s mane and grilled bread. It’s divine.
For my Small Plate I chose the Satay Devon Crab. It includes peanut sauce, pickled cabbage, ponzu and crab cracker. I chose it because I found the combination of crab and peanut intriguing. I wish I had been able to taste more of the peanut. The pickled cabbage was the strongest flavour in the dish.
Mr Sunny couldn’t resist the Smoked Beef Ribs. They met his expectations by falling right off the bone and were a real highlight of our dinner for him.
For his main course he chose the Bathurst Estate Venison. It’s served with Maitake mushroom and horseradish cream. He felt it was perfectly cooked and rich in flavour.
For my main course I had a tough time deciding between the Dairy Cow Burger (£19) and the Fallow Burger (£24). Ultimately I went for the former because I was afraid the second might be too vertical and make a big mess. Plus it seemed it was £5 extra for just an additional ingredient which is the crispy hen of the wood.
It was delicious and definitely messy. I wasn’t able to finish it, which I regret. I’m sure it was cooked exactly how they planned. But, I think some people might be concerned that it did seem a little on the raw inside. You can see some of the redness in the meat in the image above.
We skipped dessert because we found all of the above very filling.
Fallow Restaurant Review- Value for Money
The most surprising part of our experience was the mark up on wine. The ost inexpensive glasses started at £18. Usually in London restaurants I find they are between £10-£14 a glass. So the Fallow drinks menu was a bit of a shock.
For this reason we chose to get a bottle of red wine because it seemed the best value for money. The most economic one we could justify ordering was £50.
Our total bill was £180, which is about £30 more than we usually spend for a nice casual dinner in Central London. Considering we didn’t have dessert at all, our experience at Fallow restaurant is definitely getting classified a Valentine’s Day treat to each other.
Fallow Restaurant Review- Final Thoughts
Fallow restaurant is now known for being extremely busy. And it certainly was bustling on the Monday night that we visited.
However, there wasn’t one moment we felt rushed or not appreciated. Our front row seats at the Bar Table give us a direct view on the kitchen’s operations. I’ve never worked in a restaurant. But as a TikTok creator for several Michelin star restaurants in London and Content Manager for a hotel group, I spend hours filming in kitchens each week.
The organisational system at Fallow restaurant is impressive. They are busy but well equipped to handle their bookings. At least that’s what we witnessed during our dinner.
Given a chance, I would love to return to try their breakfast. I know Mr Sunny (being English and London born) loves a delicious Sunday roast. Fallow restaurant’s Sunday lunch menu looks great.
Sunny friends, have you tried this London restaurant yet? Which ones do you recommend for a Sunday roast?
